- "Our province was held in honor, as my uncle Toha 'Sumai was considered widely to be one of the greatest swordfighters in all of Sanghelios."
- — Usze 'Taham[1]
Blademaster Toha 'Sumai was a Sangheili aristocrat of the 'Sumai clan,[2] widely regarded as one of the preeminent swordsmen on Sanghelios during the Ninth Age of Reclamation,[1][3] his renown bringing great honor to his home province of Bothaes. As a swordsman, 'Sumai had the right to mate with any female he chose, and so fathered Usze 'Taham with the wife of a wealthy merchant from his own keep.[2][4] 'Sumai—under the guise of an uncle—aggressively trained 'Taham in swordsmanship for several years. By March 2555, 'Sumai had passed away.[1] In the years following the Human-Covenant War, 'Taham worked to preserve his father's legacy.[3]
