Assault is a multiplayer gametype in Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Reach, Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo 5: Guardians where one team attempts to 'arm' a bomb in the opponents base. This 'arming' requires the player carrying the bomb to occupy a designated circle in the enemies base for a predetermined amount of time. This is a task greatly aided by Sticky Arming. Built-in variants

Halo 2

Title Description
Multi Bomb Defend your base while trying to deliver your bomb into the enemy's base. 3 successful bombings wins.
Single Bomb Take turns on offense/defense. A successful bombing wins a round. First to 3 wins. No bomb return. Rounds last 3 minutes.
Single Bomb Fast Intense 2 minute rounds of offense/defense. A successful bombing wins a round. Bomb may not be returned. First to 3 wins.
Neutral Bomb There's just one bomb that starts in the middle. Use it to bomb the enemy base 3 times to win.
Blast Resort You have just 1 life and no motion sensor in this single bomb game. 10 second arming, 3 minute rounds, first to 3 wins.

Halo 3

Title Description
Assault Every team has a bomb, and a base to defend. 3 detonations to win.
Neutral Bomb All teams have a base to defend, but share a single bomb. 3 detonations to win.
One Bomb Only one team has a base to defend. 4 rounds, teams take turns defending.
Attrition Bomb Highly tactical Assault. Neutral bomb, long respawns, but teams respawn on detonations.

Halo: Reach

Title Description
Assault Retrieve the bomb, arm it in your opponent's base, and then protect it until it detonates.
Netural Bomb Assault Retrieve the bomb, arm it in your opponent's base, and then protect it until it detonates.
One Bomb Assault Retrieve the bomb, arm it in your opponent's base, and then protect it until it detonates.

Halo 2: Anniversary

Title Description
Multi-Bomb Assault Arm your bomb in the enemy base while protecting your base.
Half-Time Assault Play 2 rounds of multi-bomb Assault on an asymmetrical map and swap sides at half time.
One Bomb Assault Round-based game of alternating offense and defense. A detonation wins a round.
One Bomb Fast Short, round-based game of alternating offense and defense. A detonation wins a round.
Blast Resort You have just 1 life and no motion sensor in this single-bomb game. 10 second arming, 4 minute rounds, first to 3 points.
Neutral Bomb Assault Both teams fight to take the neutral bomb and detonate it in the enemy base.

Halo 5: Guardians

Title Description
Assault Deliver the Bomb to the enemy's goal and arm it to score while also, defending your own goal.
Super Fiesta Assault Assault with random weapons. This is madness!

General Tips

  • You're only as good as your team. Having teammates around you as you carry the bomb makes it harder to kill you. Have at least two people around you at all times, and retreat if needed.
  • If you find yourself attacked without anyone to block you, drop the bomb, attack, and pick it up after you kill them.
  • A preference of some people is to hide the bomb carrier, thinking they're not going to figure out where you are. If you get a well placed hiding spot, put some people around it, but not enough to make it obvious that you're defending something. Do not place the bomb down if you are hiding it. The bomb will respawn, and the other team will most likely get it.
  • A good place for Bomb planting is Sandtrap. Using the tunnels, getting to their Elephant is easy. A good tactic is to move their Elephant next to the tower that has the bomb, and defend it as you get it and hop right on their Elephant.
  • The more people you have on the bomb, the faster it is disarmed.
  • In One Bomb, most maps have Active Camo somewhere on them. If the bomb carrier has this then it gives you a huge advantage. They won't be able to see him so he can sneak in while the rest of your team keeps them busy.
