The Seventh Fleet is a numbered expeditionary fleet of the UNSC Navy.
History
Consolidation
Following the Fall of Reach, the Second Fleet and all other surviving naval assets of the United Nations Space Command were recalled back to the Sol system and consolidated into a single command grouping under the Home Fleet in preparation for the inevitable Battle for Earth, effective September 5, 2552. Fleet Admiral Joseph Harper of the Fifth Fleet was given primary administrative and tasking authority for all naval assets in the Sol system, as authorized by UNSC High Command and the UEG Security Council, though the Second Fleet and its fellow fleets retained control over their battle groups.[2]
Battle for Earth
Serving in the front lines of the Human-Covenant War in late 2552, the fleet was recalled to defend Earth after the Covenant invasion.[3] One of the fleet's Charon-class light frigates, UNSC Chioglossa, was destroyed in the initial stages of the Covenant's attack on Mombasa on October 20.[4] On November 3, the fleet was engaged in major skirmishes with Covenant vessels in Earth orbit in conjunction with the Second and Sixteenth Fleets.[1]
On November 17, at least seven Seventh Fleet frigates led by Commander Miranda Keyes (with the Forward Unto Dawn as the flagship)[3] engaged the Prophet of Truth's Forerunner Keyship as he attempted to use the vessel to activate the portal structure buried near Voi, Kenya.[5] As Truth's fleet fled through the now active portal, at least two frigate, the Dawn and Aegis Fate, traveled with the Sangheili Fleet of Retribution to the Forerunner Ark installation,[6][7] leading to the destruction of the Covenant and the end of the war.[8]
Composition
Charon-class light frigates
- UNSC Chioglossa (FFG-127)
- UNSC Forward Unto Dawn (FFG-201)
- UNSC Aegis Fate (FFG-307)
Production notes
- The emblem of the Seventh Fleet was originally seen on the prows of the Forward Unto Dawn and the Aegis Fate in Halo 3. However, the meaning of this symbol was not officially specified until Stephen Loftus associated it with the Seventh Fleet in the entry for the Forward Unto Dawn in Halo: The Essential Visual Guide.[9]
- A variation of the Seventh Fleet symbol, with one additional chevron, is emblazoned on the back of the Mark VI MJOLNIR armor in Halo 4.[10] The emblem is also shown in an early concept for the UNSC Infinity.
