The Great Torrent was a vigorous, rushing river from old Sangheili mythology. Once an individual crossed the Great Torrent, the river could never be passed through by that individual again.[1] The Great Torrent symbolized commitment, as there was no turning back once an individual crossed it.[2]
Kaidon Ussa 'Xellus told his people that their rebellion against the Covenant and their arrival at the Refuge was their Great Torrent, and they should no longer have doubts or second thoughts about their decision since they could no longer turn back.[1]
