Official summary
Plot synopsis
Once Linda was occupied with the turrets, Chen immediately set to work on his true goal; retrieving Gabriela. He was so consumed with his work that he'd pushed the concerns of his people and the impending Covenant attack from his mind. The Spartan reminded him of this, as he worked to remove both Gabriela and Athos from the computer systems on the UNSC Promise of Dawn. Back at the camp, Chen's followers were struggling, fighting a losing battle against the Covenant forces on the ground as they scrambled to get everyone to the new build ship, which currently lacked its navigation unit, to ferry them to safety. Two of Chen's followers uncovered a bomb, intending to use it to herd the remaining survivors towards the new build, cutting off other escape routes. Hala finds Shel there, and they brawl so that the bomb can be moved into place.
At the crash site, Linda used her speed and agility to turn the turrets on each other, gaining the upper hand on Chen and holding him above ground as though he weighed nothing. Though she believes they're too late, Linda won't give up on the survivors and convinces Chen to tell them the truth about the location of the real nav unit. Linda's mind flashes back to her mother, who reminds her that she'll always be with her. With Chen resolving to make things right by triggering the ship's auto-destruct, Linda shoots Chen in the leg to ensure that he can't run away and that the explosion will ensure he doesn't fall into enemy hands. He calls the survivors, explaining the location of the nav unit, and apologizing for the choices he forced them to make. Things are looking dire, but between her speed and her jetpack, Linda is able to arrive in time to save the people, completing her mission in full.
They return to the Office of Naval Intelligence for debrief, and Athos gives a positive report of Linda and her actions. Gabriela is brought online, and she's told that she'll be serving as the caretaker of Outpost Discovery, as ONI recognized that her knowledge was too valuable to keep to herself. Accompanied by Spartans Hazel-A302 and Owen-B096, she is brought to Earth, where she begins to teach.
