A Master Chief Story is a subtitle given to a series of stories published by 343 Industries focusing around the eponymous character of John-117 - the Master Chief. The Master Chief Story series centers on John-117 as a primary character, often including the actions of fellow Blue Team, consisting of Frederic-104, Kelly-087 and Linda-058.

The current Master Chief Story series consists of two novels and a comic book series, as well as an additional novel, Halo: Shadows of Reach, set to release in September 2020. The two books - Halo: Silent Storm and its sequel Halo: Oblivion - and the comic series - the three-part Halo: Collateral Damage - explore the actions of the Master Chief and Blue Team in and around the start of the Human-Covenant War, exploring the relationship of the UNSC and the Insurrectionists in the wake of the arrival of the Covenant, as well as featuring Covenant perspectives on the early war, notably that of Fleetmaster Nizat 'Kvarosee. Comparatively, Shadows of Reach takes place three decades later, showcasing Blue Team's actions in 2559 as part of the conflict with the Created following the events of Halo 5: Guardians.

Halo: Silent Storm, written by Troy Denning and released in September 2018, sees the Master Chief and several other SPARTAN-IIs join up with Task Force Yama and the 21st Space Assault Battalion in their first major mission alongside regular UNSC forces. Eponymously named, Operation: SILENT STORM is a desperate plan put together by the UNSC to sabotage Covenant warships in an attempt to slow the Covenant advance into human space, and buy the UNSC time to find a countermeasure to help win the war.

Silent Storm additionally features Avery Johnson alongside several new characters including Nizat 'Kvarosee, the Minor Minister of Artifact Survey and Tel 'Szatulai - showcasing a Covenant perspective on the early war with humanity, and their reaction to the actions of the Spartans. The book additionally features several characters and connections with Denning's prior Halo novels Halo: Last Light and its sequel, Halo: Retribution.
