Game rank in Halo Wars 2 is the rank given to a player in-game. Halo Wars 2 offers two kinds of ranking scheme; a Competitive Skill Rank (CSR) similar to Halo 5: Guardians' Arena and an XP-based Spartan Rank more related to systems seen in Halo: The Master Chief Collection's updated rank scheme or that seen in Halo: Reach.[1]

CSR

Main article: Rank (Halo 5: Guardians)

CSR takes the form of a seasonal league structure, with a very similar organisation to the system employed in Halo 5: Guardians.

Spartan Rank

Spartan Rank is an XP-based rank scheme that levels a player up based on XP accumulated and gametime played. There are 99 levels to achieve, with each level-up earning the player a Blitz pack. XP can be gained by playing all gamemodes (such as campaign, Terminus Firefight, non-competitive playlists and others), and is not indicative of a player's skill level.[1][Note 1]

Each rank is accompaned by a military rank from the UNSC rank structure, though the titles themselves change once every other level (IE a player is ranked as an Army Private at Rank 7, and is changed to a Corporal when they hit Rank 9). At launch, there were only 50 ranks available to achieve, with "6th Star" being the final attainable unlock. In the November 10, 2017 balance patch, an additional 49 ranks were added into the game to unlock; ranks 51-98 simply retain the title of "6th Star", with rank 99 being the title of Reclaimer.[2]

Cut ranks

Within the Halo Wars 2 game files, there exists an unused alternate ranking system. Unlike the UNSC military ranks shown in the table above, these take the form of Banished ranks, and are listed as follows;[3] Due to the ranks being cut from the game, they only cover the original levels 1-50 available in the launch of Halo Wars 2, and were not updated to include ranks 51-99.

Notes

  1. ^ All XP data listed in the table is taken from the public Halo Wars 2 API, accessible here.
