Venus is the second planet in orbit around Sol, with no natural satellites. Though a terrestrial planet with a dense atmosphere largely composed of carbon dioxide, Venus was once a candidate for human colonization, and a terraforming project was initiated on the planet. However, as of some point during or after the late 23rd century, this project was considered a failure.[1][Note 1]

On March 7, 2526, when approached about taking part in Operation: SILENT STORM, Avery Johnson mused that if he turned down the assignment, his next one would likely be "guarding snowballs on Venus".[2]

Notes

  1. ^ The Halo Mythos map which confirms that Venus was the site of a failed terraforming project also contains references to the Shaw Institute Facility, likely named after Tobias Fleming Shaw, and mentions a slipspace monitoring station on Pluto. Given that Tobias Shaw was born in 2220 and that the 23rd century saw the advent of the first human slipspace technology, this map must be chronologically depicting the Sol system at some point in the late 23rd century or later.
