Impact is a Halo 4 multiplayer map intended for use as a space themed Forge canvas. It is one of four such maps to be designed and adapted to Forging.[1]
Description
This observation outpost was established to examine the site of a spectacularly violent meteor collision recorded by an ONI patrol drone in 2547. When researchers first arrived, they were startled to find a non-native fragment of the impacting agent had actually survived and was of unknown origin. More recently, interest in the site has grown as the fragment has proven to have originated from long before the earliest of known Forerunner artifacts. [2]
Impact is situated on two large, gray asteroids floating about in space. Smaller chunks are located around it and a singular, empty UNSC structure sits on the main rock. It is mostly featureless, but this accommodates forging with structures that have a unique palette to the level.
Trivia
- Although the map is set on small asteroids exposed to the vacuum of space, there is sound and Earth-like gravity. This may be present because it is intended for the player to forge indoor space station style maps with their own artificial gravity and atmosphere.
- The map's description hints that the object being excavated could be Precursor or ancient human in origin.
- There is a small, holographic sphere that rotates in the center of the would-be floor in the UNSC base. This is, in fact, an in-map magnet that is used to easily place the Central Floor Cap object.
- Despite the large variety in Impact's exclusive Structure Pallet, many of the objects have serious issues that can sometimes render them useless. One of the largest examples is how the Station pieces have slight differences in size which results in creating complete maps with these objects very difficult.
- The sheer size of the object known as "Silo 3" often pushes the player outside of Impact's death barriers when placed.
- Along with sharing the skybox with Nebula, the descriptions of the two maps may also imply they are the same location.
