Nomination
I nominate Dab1001 a candidate for our next administrator of Halo Nation T3CHNOCIDE 13:02, July 24, 2016 (UTC)
Nominee, please accept or defer the above nomination below this line.
I gratefully accept the nomination.
Dab1001 01:29, August 7, 2016 (UTC)
Reason for Nomination
Dab1001 has been a great asset to the wiki in recent months, through regular page edits, vandalism reversion and template maintenance. With increasing admin inactivity and the upcoming release of the next Halo installment, Dab1001's introduction to the admin group will greatly benefit the wiki through greater coverage and expansion of our admin group's skills.

Questions
Nominee, if you accept the nomination, please answer the following questions. It is advised that voters check the nominee's responses before voting.
1. When did you join Halo Nation?
I first joined the wiki on the 20th of February 2013, however I did not properly begin contributing until the 18th of March 2014.
2. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to Halo Nation?
I haven't made any single contribution or set of contributions I would say are my most valuable, because I tend to make all kinds of contributions; everything from creating entirely new articles, to creating templates, to correcting spelling errors, to reverting vandalism, to making era icons, to updating/overhauling old/outdated articles, etc. Ultimately, I wouldn't say that any of those are more valuable to the wiki than any other, because they're all just as important as each other.
3. What do you believe are your most valued technical contributions to Halo Nation?
While I can't claim to have made many technical contributions to Halo Nation (although I would be happy to, if ever the need arose) beyond the creation of a few infobox, navbox and header templates, I would say that the most valuable technical contribution I've made is the series of reference templates that Vessel Of War and I created, with the help of some members of the administration who were better versed in wikitext than I was at the time. I mention these templates over the others I've made because, quite frankly, it took a while to get it properly working, and is probably the most technical thing I've done in wikitext. Although they haven't really been adopted into mainstream use by anyone besides myself, I have high hopes for them in the future. As I stated earlier though, I would be happy to make other contributions of a technical nature in the future, as I have a reasonably good grasp of HTML, wikitext and CSS.
4. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to the community?
As with Question 2, I don't believe I could really give a clear black-and-white answer to this one. In addition to working with members of the community on projects in the mainspace wiki on multiple occasions, I also tend to write the occasional blog (including a series of reviews of each Halo game excluding SA and SS, and one - soon to be two - Halo 101 articles) and was previously very active on the forums, back when they had greater traffic. I would also like to think that I'm usually very friendly and amicable both on talk pages and the forums.
5. If you are administrated, what changes do you propose?
There are many changes which I think would be beneficial to the wiki, but only a handful that are feasible. I would like to introduce the Template:Ref templates as standard-use across the wiki, with the ultimate goal being to achieve a system similar to the one used by the Destiny Wiki. I believe this would be a good idea for many reasons. Chief among them being that it will ensure that references are in a consistent, standardised format, and that, if desired by the administration, that format can be instantly changed across all pages simply by changing the template itself. In addition to this, if the date the reference was created could be recorded (whether by wikitext or manually), we could add an [ARCHIVE] link to the end of each reference which could automatically link to the same page but at the time the reference was created, using archive.org, which would completely eliminate the problem of out-of-date references. I understand that these templates are not perfect, and will still need work in order to be suitable for more widespread use, but in the long run, I think the effort would be worth it.
In addition to that, I believe we ought to create and begin enforcing standard naming schemes (beyond just 'give it a meaningful name') for Templates and Files immediately, to make it easier for contributors to find a relevant image/template.
6. To the best of your understanding, what does administratorship entail?
I'd say that it entails many things, all of which are in addition to (not replacement of) what being a normal active contributor to the site already entails. First off, I believe admins should be friendly, approachable and communicative to every member of the wiki, not just to set an example to others but also so that contributors know how to improve if their edits are reverted or restrictions are imposed on them and so that new members feel welcomed and supported. While administrators have access to tools which make many tasks easier (such as rolling back edits, etc), such tools are potentially catastrophic for the wiki if used irresponsibly or ineptly, hence adding a need for administrators to be responsible and level-headed. In addition, some tools could be used to bully, presenting a need for admins to be mature and able to look past conflicts on a personal level.
Beyond just passive traits, though, admins are responsible for the upkeep technical side of the wiki, because they are the only ones with permissions to edit the CSS pages which give the wiki its theme. The same applies for locked pages and templates, like the front page or the Halo Games template. Naturally, administrators should also oversee most edits to the wiki, and answer any questions users may have (or at the very least, be able to redirect them to someone who can better answer it). Finally, the administration should be the first line of defense against vandals and cyberbullies. While normal users can report rule-breakers and manually reverse vandalism, admins have the tools (and therefore the responsibility) both to undo wrong-doings and to take measures (ranging from simply speaking to them to a permanent ban depending on the severity) to ensure that the rule-breaker in question doesn't repeat his mistake.
7. To the best of your understanding, when will you be able to check Halo Nation after you are administrated, in the event that you are?
I would most likely come online the very same day, as I check the site regularly.
8. What communities are you associated with online, Halo and otherwise?
Most notably, I'm part of the Bravoverse community, a handful of Halo Nation members who created a wiki in order to facilitate roleplaying (though we mostly use it for communication now). Beyond that, I occasionally post on the Halo Waypoint forums, am a part of the Forge Labs spartan company and am an active member of the Destiny Wiki (at least on its forums).
9. What is your familiarity with the Halo universe?
Not to sound arrogant, but I believe I am well versed in the Halo franchise and its lore. Having owned and completed/read/watched almost every piece of Halo media excluding the reference books and being an avid reader of Canon Fodder, I'm confident in saying have gotten a firm grasp on almost all aspects of the canon.
10. What is your familiarity with Wikia and Halo Nation policies?
I have read through most of the Halo Nation policies, and will be sure to refer back to them if I'm ever in doubt. As for the Wikia policies, I would be lying if I said I'd read them, and so I will be sure to do so if I become an administrator.
11. What is your relationship with the Halo Nation community and current administration?
I generally get on well with all of the members of Halo Nation, and I consider myself friends with many Halo Nation members. Of the administration specifically, I'm on good terms with both Wilc0 and Haloprov, both of whom I have on Skype, and I also get on well with other admins in the occasional interactions we have around the wiki.
12. How may users contact you?
The most reliable way is my talk page - I check it at least once a week provided I'm not on holiday or studying for exams (both of which only come round once a year, if that). If you'd rather, posting on a forum thread that I'm following (i.e. most threads that I have ever posted on) is another reasonably reliable way to contact me, although I'd recommend trying my talk page first. Finally, if you have me on Skype, it's always open in the background when my computer's on, so you can use that.
