The M310 smooth-bore high-velocity cannons, or simply M310 guns, are two 120mm guns mounted on the M850 "Grizzly" Main Battle Tank.[1] The cannons are jokingly referred to as the "main funs" by the crews of the Grizzly.[2]
Overview
The M310 guns fire high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) shells at very high velocity; the kinetic force adds to the explosive firepower of the shell.[3] The weapon can be loaded with S1 canister shells, which produce a large, high-volume blast of explosive fragments, greatly increasing the weapon's lethality against infantry.[1] The cannons are capable of destroying the shields of an opponent and piercing their hull in a single strike. The two cannons have a high rate of fire through the use of an innovative autoloading system that uses the recoil of one cannon to decrease the loading time of the other.[2]
