Are we sure the Captains in Reach are Captain Majors? There'd be no point to classifying them as "Majors" considering no other Captain ranks appear in the game. Calling them such may have just been fanon that emerged from seeing them with gold helmets instead of blue. Gold?

Isnt this a brute captain major?(red colored ones)

File:Brute captain.jpg
Red brute captain

. That would make the gold ones ultra brute captains which makes more sense because with the thunderstorm skull activated all brutes become gold colored.

N...no... I suppose those are the... Minor ones... Are you SURE your thunderstorm skull is activated? And are you SURE Campaign Scoring is on??? --Blemo progress-wheel.gif TALK CONTRIBUTIONSTHE SOURCE OF SPAM 23:33, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

No... this is a minor:

EliteSpartan youre wrong, see any campaign game on Bungie.net and see that Majors are gold. Clavix2 File:Halo2emblemClavix.jpg I WILL PAY FOR ALL MY SINS 23:50, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

hmmm..... oh ok i see it now. sorry for the misunderstanding but if thats the case what rank are the red colored brutes? --EliteSpartanFile:Halo3.comchief.PNG My Talk My ContribsFile:Sergeant.jpgFile:GDI.jpg October 11, 2007

I think that they re just normal or minor Captain. Clavix2 File:Halo2emblemClavix.jpg I WILL PAY FOR ALL MY SINS 23:58, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

That picture of the "minor" is from pre-game release and isn't even a captain. I think that the blue ones are the minors, the red ones are the majors, and gold ones are captains. Because like Elite Spartan said, when you turn on Thunderstorm they all become Gold. But I cannot be sure. They could have easily got the color of the pictures off, the web designers that is.

Someone play through Sierra 117 on legendary with thunderstorm on and see if it registers as Majors when you kill the gold ones for more evidence?

Also, I have seen it, even though it is not shown, there are blue captains that arent on the Bungie campaign scoring, and the Gold ones take 4 brute shots while the blues take 3.

Just some thoughts, observances, and suggestions. --Justin Time 07:00, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

No thats correct just see one Campaign game on Bungie.net for example a random game: http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStatsCampaignHalo3.aspx?gameid=19436217
Did you see Gold=Major Blue=Ultra Red=Minor-Normal.
Clavix2 File:Halo2emblemClavix.jpg I WILL PAY FOR ALL MY SINS 07:10, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

I think they the pictures mixed up, the Golds are definitely stronger then the Blue captains, I played on heroic and a gold took four brute shots and a blue took three. I don't have gold so I can't upload the video, but surely someone could confirm this? --Justin Time 01:04, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Either the pictures on Bungie.net are wrong or this is like the Elite Ultra/Zealot situation. While the Zealot outranks the ultra, the ultra can take more damage. --EliteSpartanFile:Halo3.comchief.PNG My Talk My ContribsFile:Sergeant.jpgFile:GDI.jpg October 14 2007
That would not explain why the Golds come up on Thunderstorm. I have messaged Achronos on Bungie.net, and he says it very well may be an error, and that I should email it for investigation to bnetbugs@bungie.net. I just sent the email out, so keep a watch on the images incase the change, and I will keep you updated if they email me back. --Justin Time 03:48, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Have you guys ever thought that the brute colors don't matter as much like the elites. maybe bungie decide to make them random strengths and colors.HydramanFile:BR Firing.gif 19:45' 16 October 2007 (UTC)

No source sites the Majors as blue, please do not spread misinformation/fanon. --Justin Time 04:15, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

The picture looks green, not gold, to me. --Geoffron 22:02, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Check your eyes, its quite gold... not Green. --Ajax 013 22:08, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Wrong Images and Ranks

I've noticed the mistakes on this page, and being a stickler for detail, I'll offer some help.

The "Captains" present on this page are way off, and one of them isn't even a Captain.

-The violet-armored Captain is a normal/standard Brute Captain.

-The silver-blue Brute is not a Brute Captain at all; he is actually a Brute Bodyguard, and though his armor is the same shape, he is not a Captain, and the silver-blue guys are only present around a Chieftain.

-The teal-armored Brute Captain is actually a Brute Captain Ultra. This is in accordance with both the Bungie stats, and my own research.

My research with the thunderstorm skull have shown me that on Crow's Nest, which without the skull active, even on legendary, is a mix of Brute ranks, and the same goes for Brute Captains. Even on legendary, I have seen, violet, gold, and teal captains, though the violet ones are rarer. I have been able to use this level as a screen for the other levels, save for Brute Stalkers, all ranks are present, from Brute Infantry Minor to the Armor Chieftains.

Sierra 117 is an oddity in comparison; the only Brute ranks present are Brute Captains, Brute Bodyguards, and a Brute Chieftain. Given this limited set of ranks, even on legendary, without the skull, both violet and gold Brute Captains were present, but no Teal ones. With the skull, they are all gold. But switch the skull on for Crow's Nest, and all the Captains are teal armored, with no gold or violet.

Same goes probably for the other levels with Brutes present. My hypothesis is that it is programming mistake, or that since the Brutes have such a limited set of ranks present, the gold captains are present instead, since usually the first levels of a Halo game have only a few ranks present.

Of course, I could be wrong, but it does measure up from my work, and if there are any problems, let me know. thanks.

Exalted Obliteration, I appreciate your input, but I have research and proof to back up my claims. I did some research and photo shoots today, and I have found out some new information:

-There are only two Brute Captain Majors, violet and blue colorations. Any observed "dark blue variation" is just what the Brute Captain Majors look like in dim lighting, even the violet ones as shown below:

File:Dark Show.jpg

File:Light Show.jpg

-The red under armor does not signify Brute Bodyguard status, as shown in the photo below, there are no chieftains possibly present at this river fight (photo on easy with no skulls). What I have found out is that the red under armor is only present on the Violet Majors, and never on the Blue Majors, and as shown above both often appear dark blue in dim lighting under all but the closest of scrutiny.

File:Brute Red Under Armor.jpg (Notice the red under armor, despite the fact that the river areas never have chieftains in that level)

I am not going to say that any of this is final, as I am open to new evidence of course. But I would say this is strong enough to be worthy of the article. I have more evidences and photos if you request them.

Excellent

Justin Time, thank you. Now that I think about my research, you are indeed correct. Thanks for the correction. There are indeed violet-armored Brutes that look dark blue, and yes, I noticed that quite a while ago as well, but I forgot to mention it.

The mention of mine of the Captains being teal, that is also incorrect; it is actually more of cyan, if anything. One thing I have noticed that stands true is that with the thunderstorm skull active, all the Captains on Sierra 117 are gold, but on the two following levels, every single one of them is cyan, with not even any violet ones.

Of course, the silvery-blue armored ones are always present, and there are always two of them, and only around the Chieftain on Sierra 117, and the 3 Chieftains on Crow's Nest. I haven't gone beyond this, but I will try when I have the time. In all, I saw only 8 silvery-blue Captain-like Brutes in these two levels alone with or without the skull.

So why does the skull only have cyan-colored Captains after Sierra 117, instead of there being droves of golden armored ones? I am really confused, and if there is any info on this, please let me know.

Cheers! ^_^

Thanks. I believe you are right about one thing though: the cyan brutes with the red under armor are brute bodyguards I think. It troubled me that I could not find one without a Brute Chieftain nearby, so I played a game and only killed one of them, and nothing else, to see if it counted as a captain or not, and it came up as a "specialist", most likely meaning body guard.

I guess you are right, their coloring is slightly different, I don't like how bungie used such similar coloring schemes for their ranks:

File:Brute Bodyguard Blue.jpg

File:Brute Captain Major Blue.jpg

This troubles me as it is hard to tell apart violet brutes with red under armor in the oft dim lighting and these blue brute body guards.

Halo: Reach captains really majors.

I think that the gold armored captains seen in Halo: Reach are actually just ordinary captains instead of captain majors, as the only images of captains in reach are gold colored and i doubt captain majors and ultras will come back.
