The Battle of CE 10-2165 d was a space and land engagement during the Forerunner-Flood war on CE-10-2165-d.[1]
Overview
The Flood assailed the Forerunner planetside by jumping seven large freight carriers and 12,423 smaller recreational vessels into CE 10-2165 d's orbital perimeter. The recreational vessels were used as ablative armor, forming a disposable "heat shield" around the carriers upon atmospheric entry, thus ensuring the carriers made landfall. While the recreational vessels would largely disintegrated on entry, the sheer number of them overwhelmed the planet's orbital garrison despite the defense fleet having foreknowledge of the Flood's tactics. The carriers were able to successfully land and marshal their forces to attack and infect the planet's major population centers. Two hours later following the initial landing, the infected population centers destroyed themselves with high-power weapons, incinerating themselves and preventing the reach of the Flood.
