The Song of Retribution is a CAS-class assault carrier and the personal flagship of Jul 'Mdama, leader of one faction of the Covenant remnants.[1]

History

In 2554, 'Mdama and his followers discovered Requiem in the Epoloch system. The Song of Retribution remained in orbit over the planet. Over the next three years, the Covenant tried to enter the planet, without success. In July 2557, several of his ships identified a human vessel heading to the planet. 'Mdama ordered his troops to board the ship and keep the humans away from Requiem.[2] They were unsuccessful as the human and Covenant ships in the area were pulled into Requiem.[3] However, the ship and several others seemingly survived.

Over six months after the Didact's attack on Earth and after the UNSC Infinity returned to Requiem, the Song of Retribution and 'Mdama still led the Covenant forces on Requiem. The carrier participated in the Second Battle of Requiem. Towards the end of the battle, 'Mdama put Requiem on a collision course with its sun and returned to the Song of Retribution, along with Dr. Catherine Halsey. The ship, and the other remaining ships in Jul's fleet, then fled the system.[4]

Trivia

Halo 4: The Essential Visual Guide states that the Song of Retribution, despite being evenly matched against the UNSC Infinity in size, may have been outmatched in arsenal. It is unclear if this refers to all Covenant CAS-class assault carriers post-Schism or just the Song of Retribution.[5]
