I have yet to read Mortal Dictata, however, a friend of mine who owns the book says that Maria isn't mentioned in the page cited here (page 367) used as proof that she washed out. Can a quotation of that sentence be provided? I'd like to see for myself to see if it's really Maria being referred to. They also argue that Maria wouldn't have been able to use MJOLNIR without full augmentations, sounds like she's familiar with the armor (I don't own the Graphic Novel either...), and that if she failed her augmentations then she would retired sooner than 27 years later. :This is all there is: "I won't lie to you. Only one Spartan's ever retired, and that was another one like me who didn't go through the full augmentation process, but most ended up MIA or KIA anyway." I was a bit curious about this too. When I read that bit Maria was the first thing that came to my mind, but she seems to be doing just fine in the comic as far as Spartan abilities go, and no one brings up any augmentation failures. What if that throwaway line was actually a hint that the retired Spartan was someone else and that Maria didn't retire after all? Say, Ralph-303? --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 01:01, 28 January 2014 (EST)

Ralph seems more likely to me. I'm going to have to re-check the rerelease of Fall of Reach to see if it sounds like he retired or was kicked out. If Osman were talking about Maria, then her comparison is pretty faulty; few of Osman's augmentations worked while Maria seems to be on the level of any Spartan-II.
