The difference between the Missile Pod and the [[Rocket Launcher]] is that the Missile Pod tracks vehicles and the Rocket Launcher does not in Halo 3 (stated by Bungie in a game interview by IGN)
The rounds are capable of tracking targets.  This ability is similar to the SPNKR Rocket Launcher of Halo 2. Bungie has stated that the rocket shells of the SPNKR will no longer have the ability to track targets.
