Plutonium is a radioactive transuranic element. It is used in nuclear weapons. When stored aboard interstellar spacecraft, the plutonium in nuclear weapons generates a Cherenkov radiation aura upon exiting Slipspace that negates stealth measures,[1] forcing stealth vessels to jettison any nukes aboard if a stealthed slipspace exit is necessary.[2]
