Assault is a game type in Halo 2 where one team attempts to 'arm' a bomb in the opponents' base.  This 'arming' action requires the player carrying the bomb to occupy a designated circle in the enemies' base for a predetermined amount of time.  This is a task greatly aided by Sticky Arming.  The bomb will be visible to all players when it is not being carried except in single bomb and multi-bomb games when a team has not removed the bomb from its original spawn site.  However, once an opponent has picked up the bomb it disappears and can only be viewed when in line of sight or after the it has been dropped.  It is easy to see due to its bright glow.

Multi-Bomb Assault is found only in the 8 versus 8 Big Team Battle playlists.  You generally will play either Coagulation or Water Works.  In Multi-Bomb both teams possess a bomb and both must try to score to see who can reach three scores first.  If this does not happen the winner is determined by the team with the most bomb scores.  In order to be successful in Multi-Bomb play a team must be coordinated enough to organize an effective offense as well as have teammates who are willing to hang back and play defense.  Multi-Bomb Assault consists of one round of 12 minutes.  Originally the game could be prolonged indefinitely if the other team decided to hold the bomb and hide forcing the count down timer for the game to hold at 5 seconds.  This tactic however has been nullified due to the removal of sudden death from all forms of assault by the April auto-update.

Single Bomb Assault is essentially the same as Multi-Bomb except that only one team possesses the bomb, so therefore everyone on a team is on offense or everyone is on defense. There are four rounds, so two chances for each team to score.  This game mode often proves pretty challenging to score since the entire opposing team is on defense, especially on Coagulation.  The most effective strategy for this game is to attack in groups.  Often a team will initially rush the opponents’ base and everyone will die one by one.  Then as the players respawn back at their own base, each will take off across the map after the bomb.  Again, the defense will mow down the oncoming offensive players one by one.  If a team is coordinated enough players will wait after they respawn in order for their teammates to join them and then go on to attack in groups. This game type will most often be found in Team Skirmish on maps such as Burial Mounds and Zanzibar and in Big Team Battle on Containment, Zanzibar, and Headlong.
General Tips
* Your only as good as your team. Having teammates around you as you carry the bomb makes it harder to kill you. Have at least two people around you at all times, and retreat if needed

Rapid Assault
* If you find yourself attacked without anyone to block you, drop the bomb, attack, and pick it up after you kill them.

Rapid Assault is the 4 versus 4 small map version of Single Bomb assault. Aside from the rounds being shorter and the decreased arming time all the variables are the same. This game is often played on Ivory Tower and Warlock.
* A preference of some people is to hide the bomb carrier, thinking they're not going to figure out where you are. If you get a well placed hiding spot, put some people around it, but not enough to make it obvious that your defending something. Do not place the bomb down if you are hiding it. The bomb will respawn, and the other team will most likely get it.

Neutral Assault
* A good place for Bomb planting is Sandtrap. Using the tunnels, getting to their Elephant is easy. A good tactic is to move their elephant next to the tower that has the bomb, and defend it as you get it and hop right on their Elephant.

Neutral Assault involves two teams battling over one bomb in an attempt to score the bomb in the opponents' base.  This makes play difficult since possession of the bomb changes multiple times during the course of a game.  As was mentioned above the bomb will be visible from the start of the game until the opposing team picks it up and will be visible again if they drop it.  This game is more geared towards the Big Team Battle playlists, however, there is one Team Skirmish form of it played on Coagulation.
*The more people you have on the bomb, the faster it is disarmed.

Neutral Bomb Fast
*In One Bomb, most maps have Active Camo somewhere on them. If the bomb carrier has this then it gives you a huge advantage. They won't be able to see him so he can sneak in while the rest of your team keeps them busy.

Neutral Bomb Fast is the smaller scale version of Neutral Assault.  This game type is exactly the same except for the decreased arming time and map selection.  Maps which incorporate this game type are Beaver Creek, Foundation, and Warlock.

The icon for Assault in Halo 3.

Assault is a multiplayer gametype in Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo: Reach where one team attempts to 'arm' a bomb in the opponents' base.
