The Line Installation 1-4.

Line Installation 1-4 (also simply referred to as "The Line") was a Forerunner installation located on an unknown Moon.[1] The installation had a form of automated defense system that would shoot down any ships passing near the moon, even when in Slipspace. As a result, the moon's surface was littered with wreckages of ships.[2]

During the Human-Covenant War in the mid-2500's, the UNSC Long Time Coming, as well as a Covenant Assault Carrier were shot down by the Line's defenses while in Slipspace. As a result, they both crash-landed on the moon and some of their personnel were taken by Gatherers into the main facility of the Installation, for study by 686 Ebullient Prism, the Monitor of the Line. During the ensuing conflict, the installation's control center was located and used to crash an entire Covenant fleet in Slipspace.[2][3]

The installation is presumably a defensive structure used to shoot down infected ships during the Forerunner-Flood War, and may have been linked to the Maginot Line.
