The Assault Cannon is a Covenant weapon which is used by the Mgalekgolo (or Hunters). Its ammunition comes in the form of incendiary gel tubes called Fuel Rods which can be fired as bolts or a continuous stream[1]. It is used to arm the Mgalekgolo sentries of the Forerunner Dreadnought in the novel Halo: Contact Harvest. In the first Halo game, Halo: Combat Evolved the Mgalekgolo use a version of the Assault Cannon preferably referred to as the Fuel Rod Gun which would charge and then fire one bolt. In Halo 2 the Mgalekgolo also use the same variant of the Assault Cannon as in Halo: Combat Evolved, and it isn't until Halo 3 that we see the second variant of the Assault Cannon which fires in a continuous stream. It is located on the right "arm" of the colony, built into the Lekgolo that make up the limb.
Notes
- The Assault Cannon is most likely the Fuel Rod Gun and also explains the difference in firing style between the fuel rod gun of the Hunters in Halo: Combat Evolved(a kind of Energy, sparky bolt) and those of the Hunters in Halo 2(a continous beam) and Halo 3(a mix of both).
