Sangheili Major

The Elite Majors are seasoned warriors whose rank is relatively low in the Covenant Elite Rank Structure. They command Minor Elites as well as other races on ground combat situations. They are referred to in several ways, such as "Veterans" or "Half Commanders." They are the physical equivalent of a SPARTAN-II supersoldier. A single Major Elite can often hold its own against a squad of Marines. They are also the only known rank of Elite that become Ossoonas.

Major Elites wear a distinct crimson-colored armor.

Combat

Only found wielding Plasma Rifles and Needlers, these Elites have slightly more powerful shields than the blue armoured Elites. They fire in sustained bursts and move while shooting. They are also far less prone to tactical mistakes, such as not charging directly into a fight and taking cover more often.

In Easy and Normal modes, these Elites are relatively uncommon, but in Heroic and Legendary, they take the place of increasing numbers of Minor Elites.

Killing a Major Elite can be difficult on "Legendary" mode. Killing two can be near impossible. A player can surprise a Major Elite with a Plasma Grenade or Rocket Launcher, but when the Elite has noticed you, it is extremely difficult to hit or stick. The most reliable way to kill one of these Elites is to fire a full clip from a Needler directly at the Elite while well concealed. If the entire clip makes it to the Elite, it will explode three times, guaranteeing death.
