The Wolverine is a United Nations Space Command ground-based anti-aircraft battery in Halo Wars designed to take down Banshees and other airborne Covenant units such as Dropships and Air Artillery. It bears more than merely a passing resemblence to the M1097 Avenger Air Defence System used by the US Army in the 21st Century.
Because the Wolverine has only been the subject of a few seconds of gameplay footage, and little explanation, it is presumed that they are used in an Air Defence Role, intercepting Covenant Banshee fighters to prevent bombing runs against UNSC ground forces and emplacements. Aesthetically, the Wolverines bear a resemblence to both the M1097 Avenger, with which it also shares a similar role, and the MLRS rocket artillery system, which does not.
This unit is not seen outside Halo Wars, despite the Covenant's Earth assault. But by this time, it is possible that these units might have been replaced by others units not using a half-tracked system.
