Alpha Company was the first company of Spartan-IIIs.
Background
Alpha Company was the first company of Spartan-III's to be trained. This group originally had 497 trainees recruited between the age of four, five and six years old.[1] The children were orphaned by Covenant attacks on various colonies including Jericho VII, Harvest and Biko.
Only 300 made it to become full Spartan-IIIs in active engagement service. They were tested on the night they were sent, and are instructed to paradrop to the designated pickup location.[2] They then started training at Camp Currahee on Onyx by Lieutenant Commander Kurt Ambrose, a SPARTAN-II, on December 27, 2531.[3] They went active in November of 2536.
They fought at Insurrection of Mamore, The Battle of New Constantinople, in the Bonanza Asteroid Belt, and the Far-gone Colony Platforms, among other engagements.[4] However, every single one of them died during Operation: PROMETHEUS, but halted a massive Covenant shipyard in the process.[5]
It is also mentioned in Ghosts of Onyx that some of the Alpha Company members who didn't make the cut became drill instructors and went out of their way to make life miserable for the recruits of Beta Company.
