Captain is a junior commissioned officer rank of the UNSC Marine Corps, UNSC Army, and UNSC Air Force equal in rank to Lieutenant in the UNSC Navy. In the Marine Corps, they are usually placed in command of companies, or serve as staff officers in battalions. They may also serve in the battalion Executive Officer billet.

There are three Captains featured in the Halo Universe so far. One is the nameless commander of Tango Company, which was one of the Marine Corps' companies the Spartan-IIs were pitted against during their training as youths.[1] The second is Ponder, after being demoted from Lieutenant Colonel.[2] Lastly, Veronica Dare is an operative of ONI who took command of an ODST squad during the Battle of Earth. Dare will be featured as a character in Halo 3: ODST.[3]
