The name "Spartan Group Omega" is strange as the Spartan IIs often color code their squads (eg Red Team, Blue Team, and, albeit, there is only five of them noted to be visible in the snapshot, meaning they couldn't be a whole company.) Bungie was probably looking for a way to incorporate the Spartans into their new game, so the "Spartan Group Omega" probably has little or no revelance to the actual spartan story and plot, unless the Spartan Group Omega is a squad of the SPARTAN-III Program, which is highly doubtful, because the entirety of the Spartan IIIs use squads, not groups, also unless Bungie decided that they would make this a fluke, like the SPARTAN-458 in Dead or Alive 4. Also, the SPARTAN-III would not have been trained at that time, and the spartan IIs were probably just coming out of child hood 27 years before Halo Combat Evolved. Omega could be a group within a group, such as the classifications of Red Team in the battle for Reach. When split into smaller groups, Red Team ended up being Alpha Team, Beta Team, Gamma Team, and Delta Team. It is possible that since this is most likely the first ground engagement between the covenant and the UNSC. Spartan group omega looks to be bigger than a four or five persons squad, this means the it is probably the designated name for the entire Spartan II group all working together. Also if this is the case than the leader may be Master Chief only younger as the halo games take place about 30 years later after the start of the war. Also this would mean that the Mjolnir mark IV they are wearing has been modefied for cold weather just as the armor of the elites have. And since the spartans were made to look taller than there age this would mean that they look than they would as regular kids, plus the armor also makes them look bigger there by showing that this is probably the entire Spartan II group.

Spartan Group Omega prepares to engage the Covenant against a background of UNSC troops.

Spartan Group Omega appears in the trailer for Halo Wars. They're wearing what appears to be Mark IV MJOLNIR armor, although if you look carefully you can see the articulation points are lit up, and the armor looks less rounded than the normal Mark IV. They also appear to be armed with BR55 Battle Rifles or a similar variant. The barrel of the Battle Rifle is also slightly extended, and a little more blocky-looking. The identities of the team are unknown, although given the voice of what appears to be their squad leader, the Master Chief does not seem to be among them.
