Democritus was the name for a Remote Scanning Outpost in the Solar System. Democritus was in orbrit around Pluto, the ninth planetary body in the system. This station was undetected by the Covenant as long as November 3, 2552, during the Second Battle of Earth. It was thus, still functional. It monitored Slipspace activity and picked up a message sent from Cortana using Forerunner technology and another signal piggybacked on it by Dr. Catherine Halsey.[1]
