He studied at Oberlin College and Conservatory for five years and then went on to teach as a high school orchestra teacher for anohter five years. He has been in the video game industry since at least 1996. He is a major afficionado of science fiction novels, sports, brass instruments, and beer- with beef jerkey.
He is married to seattle actress Heather Hawkins, and has two children, Duncan and Tessa.
He was credited as sound designer for Halo: Combat Evolved. He then served as sound lead for Halo 2. He works at Bungie still, and is likely working on Halo 3.
