I think the level Cortana and maybe the Covenant were set in 2553. It takes a pretty long time for the ships to slipspace jump to the Ark. Look at how fast a UNSC frigate goes in slipspace - about 2.1 light years a day is how fast it goes. The Ark was outside the Milky Way Galaxy. I think it took about a month or more to get to the Ark from Earth, considering how fast it takes for ships to get there.
