The Bandit is a human assault rifle and a variant of the DMR. It is featured in Halo Infinite, and was added in the Season 03: Echoes Within update. It is a precision weapon, designed to feel similar to the DMR as it appeared in Halo: Reach, but with the goal of making it more effective at closer ranges.[1]

Universe and lore

Main article: M392 DMR

Manufactured by Sevine Arms under a license from original designer Misriah Armory,[2] the M392 Bandit is a production variant of the M392 DMR, a semi-automatic rifle that first entered service with the UNSC Army in 2512.[3] It fires 7.62x51mm rounds that are fed by a detachable box magazine,[4] typically holding 15 rounds.[5] The M392 features a raised mounting rail for optics, and is commonly paired with an EVOS-D optical scope,[6] though can be used without a sight.[7]

The M392 served as a replacement to the older M295 DMR, also manufactured by Misriah,[8] and saw widespread adoption across many branches of the UNSC Armed Forces, including the Marine Corps, Army and Air Force. It saw action during the late Insurrection and well into the Human-Covenant War, despite diminished popularity after the introduction of the BR55 battle rifle. Although its replacement, the M395 DMR, broadly supplanted it, the M392 was still in service with Army and Marine reserve units,[3] circa 2558.

The M392 is standard-issue for the Gao and Venezian militia units. The weapon has Sangheili markings, which is an indicator of Servine's work to become commonplace in the markets of former Covenant planets.[2]

  • M392 Bandit: The base variant of the M392 Bandit. It holds 15 rounds and can kill Spartans in 5 shots with headshots and 7 shots with bodyshots.
  • Speedshooter Bandit: A yellow-painted variant of the M392 Bandit that fires faster, but features slightly more recoil.
  • Reach Bandit: A scoped variant of the M392 Bandit that have 2x-4x variable-zoom and less bloom when scoped in. However, this variant features scope glint but it doesn't add de-scope.

Production notes

The Bandit was added to Halo Infinite as part of Season 03: Echoes Within on March 7, 2023. Evidence of its existence was discovered by dataminers several months before the weapon was officially unveiled in September 2022, a fact that 343 Industries acknowledged during the reveal presentation.[1]

The Bandit is only available in Halo Infinite's multiplayer portion, and was not added to the campaign with Season 03's release. Until Season 4, the Bandit Rifle has no variants available.
