Operated in combat by Forerunner Warrior-Servants, the war sphinx was a highly versatile combat vehicle. Though usually flown in air and space, they could also operate on the ground in a bipedal form. War sphinxes were deployed in large numbers during the Human-Forerunner War and the following Forerunner-Flood War. After his first exile, the Ur-Didact's Cryptum was guarded by twelve war sphinxes, each of which were once piloted by his children before their deaths.
