RETIRED
This user is no longer active on Halopedia because of a hostile editing environment. I'm still editing Wikimedia wikis as EthanGaming7640, though. (global contributions · CentralAuth).

New pages

Hi, when making new pages please remember to follow our Layout guide, for consistent page formatting. In general, making a page consisting of one sentence with no accompanying templates is not a particularly useful page. It would be helpful if you tried to at least put in the basic necessities for layout.

Additionally, I would recommend avoiding adding Trivia entries where possible. Speculative content or info such as "X is/ isn't like Y" is very rarely considered notable for inclusion on Halopedia, and should be avoided where possible. Thanks. BaconShelf (talk) 02:44, July 28, 2021 (EDT)

New pages - again

Hi, please take some time to read my prior message about creating new pages. New pages created only to have a stub notice, without any proper layout styling can be less useful than simply not having a page. If you would like help in creating such pages, feel free to contact any of the staff here or on our Discord server. Otherwise, please refrain from making more pages like this - otherwise it will result in a temporary ban.BaconShelf (talk) 07:24, August 1, 2021 (EDT)

Disambiguating Page Names

Please keep in mind that certain pages that share names with other pages but lacks a bracketed addendum (e.g. Finish the Fight) are named as such because they were assumed to be the best guess for a user searching the name. There's no need to move the page because it was intentionally given that namespace, without a bracketed addendum, since it's considered more notable than other pages with the same name. See here for our policy on disambiguating page titles. Thanks! JackVibe 05:54, August 4, 2021 (EDT)

Grammar software

Feel free to use your grammar checking software to fix mistakes on pages (as there are surely a great many). HOWEVER, there are some things you need to be careful of. Always check through the edit using the "Show preview" option before submitting, as your software has been leaving some red links that didn't exist before. Be sure to fix these if you make them. Also, if any kind of transcript (i.e. a verbatim quote from an official source) has a grammar mistake, that should NOT be fixed. It defeats the purpose of the transcript if we edit it. Ironically, this kind of software can also make grammar mistakes of its own, often due to it not understanding the context of what is being said. Again, please read over each edit before you submit. Thanks. TheArb1ter117 (talk) 15:05, August 6, 2021 (EST)

Grammer software (again)

Hi. Please stop using your bot to mass automate spelling and grammar corrections; several times now you have removed links to existing pages because you are not checking your edits properly. It would also be appreciated if you can respond to this message in any way, to let us know you're actually reading this - otherwise we will end up just instituting a block. RE: Block

Hi, you've currently been blocked from editing for one week due to continued use of bots and similar automation tools despite multiple repeated requests from several members of the staff team not to. You've repeatedly shown a lack of care in edits made with such tools leading to causing many issues that wouldn't be there if you took the time to properly preview edits. Please stick in accordance with our bot policy and properly request the use of automation tools, or future blocks may be longer in length. Thanks. BaconShelf (talk) 18:39, August 26, 2021 (EDT)

You just assumed. I just hate the "Redirected from" notification (like this). EthanGaming7640 (talk) 14:40, August 27, 2021 (EDT)
Your second-to-last edit on the Siege of Madrigal page lists this tool as part of an automated text edit. Redirects are fine; they exist for a reason. BaconShelf (talk) 17:48, August 27, 2021 (EDT)
Okay, I was just fidgeting and that happened. EthanGaming7640 (talk) 17:51, August 27, 2021 (EDT)
Edit: No bots were included in my edits. Just a grammar checker and script where I have to press buttons. If it originally is a typo, but isn't, I add it to my personal dictionary. And if it's an error that's valid, I fix it/add it to here. EthanGaming7640 (talk) 20:06, August 28, 2021 (EDT)
Here's what it looks like now, here's what it would look like if I changed it to be perfect. "Hi, you've currently been... similar automation tools, despite... with such tools, leading... or future blocks may be longer. (missing commas, possible redundancy). EthanGaming7640 (talk) 19:34, August 31, 2021 (EDT)
Yea us on the Wiki team still request you to edit normally, and avoid scripting stuff.
Using a script and a grammar checking tool together breaks the updated Bot Policy, and continued use may risk further blocks.
Thank you for reading.-CIA391 (talk) 11:40, September 1, 2021 (EDT)
One more thing, the script is the grammar checker. EthanGaming7640 (talk) 16:46, September 1, 2021 (EDT)
If you would like to use it along with your other edits, please download it to Google Chrome here.
Please just dont use it unless it passes the discussion. Which it currently hasnt so you cant use it.-CIA391 (talk) 16:44, September 3, 2021 (EDT)

RE: Second block

Hi, you've been blocked from editing for six months, due to ignoring several repeated requests not to move pages without first consulting members of staff prior. In general, your lack of willingness to communicate be it via Discord or through even replying to messages has been very frustrating to try and work with - especially given how frequent (and often unnecessary) your edits are - many of us on staff are still not fully convinced you aren't still using the same language software you were blocked for last time.

Overall, when your block is lifted, please try and be more co-operative with us. BaconShelf (talk) 18:17, September 10, 2021 (EDT)

My edits are meant to be unnecessary but helpful. I would like the wiki to be as perfect as possible (by the way, can you split up your sentences next time? It increases readability.)
The reason I exist on Halopedia:
1: To increase readability using this
2: To increase readability using this
3: To increase readability using this
4: To increase readability using this
5: To add content
Once again, you have been asked several times to stop using automated editing software of any kind, as you've repeatedly demonstrated a lack of care in your editing. As long as you keep insisting on using it, you will be blocked from editing. BaconShelf (talk) 18:30, September 10, 2021 (EDT)

What makes you think it’s automated? I can choose to resolve the error or not. EthanGaming7640 (talk) 18:41, September 10, 2021 (EDT)

They're still automatically deciding what information to change - they lack the context (such as site policy or knowledge of subject matter) to be able to intelligently make edits, resulting in a lot of unnecessary changes that are only being made because a browser addon says so.
This should not come as a surprise - such software is explicitly covered in our bot policy, and is non-negotiable.BaconShelf (talk) 18:44, September 10, 2021 (EDT)
