[sic]

Template Documentation

Usage

This template adds a [sic] notation with mouse-over text. [sic] is inserted in a quote or transcription after a word, which contains a textual/factual error or what appears to be an error. The template contains one mandatory parameter, which displays the expected/intended text followed by "verbatim transcription for archival reasons". See the Wikipedia page for more information on the notation itself.

For example, here is the template being used for a quote from the Halo 4 campaign level Dawn, which misidentifies the Halcyon-class light cruiser UNSC Pillar of Autumn as a Frigate:

Frigate {{Sic|Cruiser}} ''Pillar of Autumn'' discovers Forerunner Halo Installation 04, and deploys SPARTAN-117 to protect UNSC AI Cortana.
This produces
Frigate [sic] Pillar of Autumn discovers Forerunner Halo Installation 04, and deploys SPARTAN-117 to protect UNSC AI Cortana.

Documentation

This template is still a work-in-progress. Potential improvements may include:

  • A complete revamp which adds a navigation popup instead of mouse-over text, so the correct text could be linked to an article.
  • The [sic] notation linking to a Help page on Halopedia or its corresponding page on Wikipedia.
  • Variation of mouse-over text for transcripts of outdated information, such as transcripts inadvertently deadnaming individuals who have changed their names after their names were transcribed.
