UNSC Meriwether Lewis is a Stalwart-class light frigate in service with the UNSC Navy.[1][Note 1]
Jacob Keyes served aboard this vessel prior to 2531, and defended the vessel against an overwhelming Covenant attack force with only a small security force. Keyes charged the boarders with only an M6 magnum,[2] sustaining several injuries in the process including plasma burns on his thigh and hand.[3] For his bravery on the vessel, Keyes received a Medal of Honor.[4]
Meriwether Lewis remained in service in the wake of the Human-Covenant War. At some point before October 2558, the Meriwether Lewis had a Spartan contingent, with Spartan Edward Buck acting as Spartan Commander before being transferred to UNSC Infinity and Fireteam Osiris.[5]
Trivia
- Meriwether Lewis is named after the famous explorer of the same name who, along with William Clark, mapped out most of the Western United States in the early 1800s. The ship is mistakenly referred to as "Merriweather Lewis" in the Halo 5: Guardians Limited Edition.
- In the Halo: Combat Evolved manual, this ship was classified as a colony ship. For more information see List of inconsistencies in the Halo series.

Notes
- ^ a b In Halo: The Fall of Reach (page 163 of the Definitive Edition or 139 of the original edition), it is stated that Keyes' new ship, the destroyer Iroquois, was 7 meters longer than the frigates Meriwether Lewis and Midsummer Night. Halo 2 established the length of a UNSC frigate to be 478 meters; this was the later-named Stalwart class. Later, when a UNSC destroyer was first depicted in visual media with The Heart of Midlothian, it was established that the ship was 485 meters in length; an addition of 7m to the length of the Stalwart class. In Halo: The Cole Protocol (page 35), the Midsummer Night is revealed to be a light frigate. Halo: The Essential Visual Guide established that the Stalwart and Charon classes would be considered light frigates, while the Paris class would remain a heavy; a conscious decision to establish the Stalwart as the class the Meriwether Lewis and Midsummer Night belong to. Furthermore, since Stalwart is both a light frigate and the only frigate class to be 478 meters in length, the Meriwether Lewis and Midsummer Night must be part of this class.
