This article is about the zero-g maneuvering unit. For the atmospheric propulsion pack, see Series 8 jetpack. For the booster pack in Halo 4, see M805X thruster pack. For the Halo 5 player ability, see Spartan abilities.

The thruster pack (Model: 050978),[1] also known as the T-PACK for short, is a UNSC-issue form of propulsion for use by individuals on deep-space missions. The MJOLNIR EVA variant supports the use of T-PACKS, while the GEN2 MJOLNIR armor is equipped with a built-in thruster pack along with a number of secondary maneuvering and stabilization thrusters.[2]

The Covenant analog to the thruster pack is the antigravity pack.

Overview

Designed for long-range deep-space operations, M-050978 thruster packs are still some of the riskiest equipment available. They feature triple redundancy NAV systems, stabilizers, redundant shutoff valves and emergency sealant foam.[1] T-PACKs contain two tanks of compressed triamino hydrazine, which, if ruptured, will cause rapid loss of control, for which there is little a person can do.

They can be linked up to weapons such as MA5B assault rifles. Should the wearer fire the weapon, the pack will provide enough counter thrust to keep the wearer from spinning out of control.[3] T-PACKS also contain emergency rescue lines of orange and white rope meant to rescue other people who are stranded in deep space.[1] Chief Mendez trained the SPARTAN-IIs with this type of equipment but warned them if one thing goes wrong the chance of rescue is non-existent.

T-PACKS appear to be adversely affected by radiation; if they come into proximity with unshielded radiation, they will fail. They will also fail and cause similar results if struck by weaponry. They have also caused the disappearance of two SPARTAN-II supersoldiers. One (Unit Serial: #82.10923.192) was worn by Kurt-051 in 2531 on a mission in the Groombridge 34 system. It failed when it came into contact with radiation from a Shaw-Fujikawa drive, causing him to spin out of control.[1] Another, worn by James-005 during the Fall of Reach, exploded when hit with projectiles from a Needler, causing him to tumble into deep space and subsequently lose contact.[4]
