Photoreactive panels are a form of active camouflage developed by the United Nations Space Command.[1] The outer layer of the Semi-Powered Infiltration armor is coated with photoreactive panels to hide the wearer from sight. While not as sophisticated as Covenant active camouflage, the technology advanced during the Human-Covenant War, with the newer SPI generation being fitted with more efficient photoreactive panels in 2551.[2]
UNSC prowlers are also equipped with a form of photoreactive paneling, integrated to the stealth ablative coating and enabled by texture buffers.[3][4]
By 2558, some of the photoreactive plating technology on the SPI armor has seen limited but successful use in several special operations ODST units.[5]
