Dust and Echoes is the twenty-fifth included in the Halo: Original Soundtrack.

Overview

This track gives the player the feeling of being alone; that they lost everything and that the victory came at a terrible cost, which it did. Rather than infect the galaxy with the Flood or activate Halo, which would destroy all intelligent life in the galaxy, the total destruction of the ring was concluded to be the only course of action.

The middle section of the piece features the vocals from The Maw.

Appearances

It plays during the end of the level The Maw, in the ending cutscene.

The first part is played in reverse on the level Keyes during the cutscene where John-117 retrieves the Flood-assimilated Captain's neural implants from the Proto-Gravemind.
