UNSC Brasidas was a destroyer in service within Battle Group Omicron in the UNSC Navy during 2552. The battle group had five other destroyers[3] but they were all destroyed by the Covenant's superior fleet.[4]
History
The UNSC Brasidas participated in the Battle of Earth on October 20, 2552. During the battle, Brasidas fired one of its Magnetic Accelerator Cannons from orbit towards the surface of Earth to disable a Type-47A 'Protos' Scarab in the city of Mombasa, Africa on Earth. With the Scarab disabled, UNSC Marines engaged the Scarab's surviving personnel in an attempt to recover the walker.[2]
The Brasidas was part of Admiral Carl Patterson's battle group sent to Onyx to retrieve Dr. Catherine Halsey as well as the SPARTAN-IIs and IIIs stationed on the planet. During the first attack on Covenant ships in orbit in the Battle of Onyx, the Brasidas was damaged extensively, suffering damage to its reactor. It then transferred its load of HORNET mines to the prowler UNSC Dusk.[5] It was destroyed along with the UNSC Stalingrad when Covenant reinforcements swarmed into the Zeta Doradus system.[4]
Trivia
The ship is named after Brasidas, a Spartan General during the first decade of the Peloponnesian War who was killed at the Battle of Amphipolis.
