The President of the Unified Earth Government is the civilian elected position of head of state and head of government of the Unified Earth Government.[1] The president is responsible for selecting members of the cabinet.[2]
In the aftermath of the Human-Covenant War, Fleet Admiral Lord Terrence Hood assisted with the official transition of power back to the president and the UEG from the United Nations Space Command, which had acted as humanity's emergency government during the war. In 2553, numerous politicians and academics contended for the position of president.[3] Ultimately, Doctor Ruth Charet was elected to the post on January 8, 2553[4] and remains in office by March 2558.[5][6]
