The President of the Unified Earth Government is the head of state and head of government of the UEG. The president is a civilian elected position.[1]

In the aftermath of the Covenant War, Fleet Admiral Terrence Hood assisted with the official transition of power back to the president and the UEG from the United Nations Space Command, which had acted as humanity's emergency government during the war. In 2553, numerous politicians and academics contended for the position of president.[2] Ultimately, Doctor Ruth Charet was elected to the post in January 2553 and remains in office by March of 2558.[3][4]
