Lament for Pvt. Jenkins is the twelfth piece included in the Halo: Original Soundtrack.
Overview
The piece is a tense, moody ambient song by string orchestra. The piece opens with a dark, powerful drumbeat, followed by an apprehensive minor chord. Every seven seconds, the drum sounds again, punctuating a change in the chord. The song becomes increasingly disjointed towards the end, featuring the scrambled high notes typical of the Flood, and slowly fades out, leaving a dark air to the scene.
Appearances
It can be heard:
- In the level The Silent Cartographer, when Bravo 022 gives a Mayday call.
- During the cutscene in 343 Guilty Spark where John-117 watches the video feed from Jenkins' helmet.
- In the beginning of Halo: Last One Standing of the Halo: Landfall series, when T. Rymann deviates from the mission's original course to find a medic for the injured S. Hartley.
Trivia
The name is clearly derived from the Chief witnessing the horrible fates of Jenkins, Bisenti, Mendoza and the rest of Johnson's squad.
