In Halo 3, the IWHBYD (I Would Have Been Your Daddy) Skull is located on the level The Covenant (Level). To get this skull, you must be on the difficulty level of Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
The Halo 3 IWHBYD (I Would Have Been Your Daddy) skull is located on the campaign level The Covenant. This skull has no actual gameplay effects, but reverses the frequency of the dialogue spoken by non-playable characters, allowing several humorous lines to be heard where otherwise such humorous lines would be very rare.

The name of the skull is based on a statement uttered by Sergeant Johnson in the first Halo: "I would have been your daddy, but a dog beat me over the fence!" It is also the name of the first chapter of the campaign level Assault on the Control Room in Halo: Combat Evolved.
Origins
In order to get the IWHBYD skull, you must complete the entire mission until you reach the final battle scene, where the Prophet of Truth is planning on lighting all seven rings. Once you reach the bridge, battle your way across with the Arbiter and Flood, neutralize all Covenant, watch/skip the cinematic, and kill all the flood (this is optional, but makes the procedure much easier). Once the bridge is devoid of enemies, you will have to literally jump through the 7 rings in a complex order. Once you have completed this, the IWHBYD skull will appear at the beginning of the light bridge leading to Truth's podium.

Each number corresponds to the ring you must jump through. The ring at the elevator is 1. The ring next to Truth is 7. The ring with red on it is 4.
It is also the name of the first chapter of the campaign level Assault on the Control Room in Halo: Combat Evolved. Not only is the skull's name a reference to this line, but the skull's description reads "But a dog beat me over the fence" The exception of this is in Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4, where the description reads, "Rare dialog is common and vice versa".

The IWHBYD skull is located on the level The Covenant. To obtain the skull, the player must start the level from the very beginning, and not from a Rally Point, and on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.

Once you have completed the sequence, the skull will appear at the beginning of the light bridge leading to Truth's podium. If you are not sure you got it then look at the rings when you complete the sequence, they will be blinking. The Halo theme will play as you get the skull. You must then finish the level, or the skull will not be saved to your profile and you will have to get it again.
When you reach the final scene, where the Prophet of Truth is planning on lighting the seven rings, proceed as you would normally: kill the Covenant, kill Truth, and kill the Flood, but do not jump down the elevator shaft once you have finished that.

Once the bridge is devoid of enemies, you will have to jump through the seven holograms of the Halos in a specific order.

Each of the holographic rings sound a different tone of the E Dorian scale when you stand near it. The sequence, if you pay attention, plays part of the Halo theme song. Also, the rings in the citadel resemble the seven installations, with the fourth ring being Installation 04, indicated by its red glow.
You should jump through the rings after Truth dies. The skull will still appear if you are playing in co-op (2-4 players).

Effect
Note: you can restart jumping through the rings without restarting the level over as long as you start from the beginning.

The IWHBYD Skull unlocks the extra dialogue in the game, which usually comes from the UNSC Marines and Elites, but some ridiculous dialogue does come from enemy forces with this skull on. For example if in a group of two Brutes one is killed, the remaining Brute has a chance to say "You killed my lover!" Here is a list of a few quotes, from their respective races.
The 7-ring sequence is as follows. Each number corresponds to the ring you must jump through; the ring at the elevator is 1, and the ring next to Truth is 7. The ring with red on it is 4.

You must then finish the level, or the skull will not be saved to your profile and you will have to do it all over again.

#"Sorry, we don't take Master Card!"
The IWHBYD skull causes rare dialogue in the game to become commonplace, and normally frequent dialogue to become rare. These lines are can be heard spoken by all talking non-player characters; both enemies and allies.
#"Sorry, we don't take American Express!"
#"I like chicken nuggets!"
#"The power is YOURS!" - When a Brute sticks you with a grenade.
#"Ding dong, the demon is dead!" - When a Brute kills you.
#"Hey Grunt, the demon isn't that big, why don't you go out and get him?" - When a Brute is inside a Bubble shield with a Grunt or two.
#"He was my lover!" - When you kill a nearby Brute.

Grunts
For example, if a Jiralhanae is killed, one of the surviving Brutes might say, "He was my lover!" or "Every pack-brother for himself!" These lines can be heard without the skull on, but it becomes much more likely to be spoken with it on.
#"You killed Flipyap! Or Yapflip, was he... It was Flipyap... No, Flipyap was his brother. Don't tell me I don't know Yapflip! Flipyap and I went to Nipple Academy together, and, eh, now he's dead..." - If a nearby grunt is killed.

#"Well this sucks, I'm headin' north!" - If the player shoots at a fleeing Grunt.
#"Fear my bright, blue balls!" - When a Suicidal Grunt charges the player.
#"I was so wrong to shoot at you." If targeting or shooting a grunt who recently shot you
#"You know, if he gets us, he will tear out our skulls, rip off our masks, and burn the methane.*sigh* We deserve it"

Origins[edit]

The name of the skull is based on a statement, occasionally uttered by both Sergeant Johnson and Sergeant Stacker in Halo: Combat Evolved: "I would have been your daddy, but a dog beat me over the fence!" The quote was originally spoken by Pete Stacker.[1]

Walkthrough[edit]

The IWHBYD skull is located on the level The Covenant. To obtain the skull, the player must start the level from the very beginning, and not from a Rally Point, and on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.

You should jump through the rings after Truth dies. The skull will still appear if you are playing in co-op (2-4 players).

Note: you can restart jumping through the rings without restarting the level over as long as you start from the beginning.

The 7-ring sequence is as follows. Each number corresponds to the ring you must jump through; the ring at the elevator is 1, and the ring next to Truth is 7. The ring with red on it is 4.

Sequence order:

 • 4 6 5 4 5 3 4

Once you have completed the sequence, the skull will appear at the beginning of the light bridge leading to Truth's podium. If you are not sure you got it, then look at the rings when you complete the sequence; they will be blinking in sequence. The Halo theme will play as you get the skull. You must then finish the level, or the skull will not be saved to your profile and you will have to do it all over again.

Effect[edit]

The IWHBYD skull causes rare dialogue in the game to become commonplace, and normally frequent dialogue to become rare. These lines are can be heard spoken by all talking non-player characters; both enemies and allies.

For example, if a Jiralhanae is killed, one of the surviving Brutes might say, "He was my lover!" or "Every pack-brother for himself!" These lines can be heard without the skull on, but it becomes much more likely to be spoken with it on.
