They do that for the same reason Japanese pilots did in WWII: they're desperate (an "if I'm going down, I'm taking you with me" mentality). Considering the religious overtones, one could also draw parallels between Kamikaze Grunts and Muslim suicide bombers, but that makes less sense because ''they'' do it out of fanaticism and not despair.
