Background
Service history
The Aegis Fate took part in the attempt to stop the Prophet of Truth from activating the Ark's Portal. In the cut-scene, it can be seen firing MAC rounds at the Forerunner Dreadnought alongside the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn and an unknown UNSC frigate. The Aegis followed the Covenant Separatists' First Sangheilian Fleet into the portal and survived a further engagement between the Sangheili and Truth's fleet.

The UNSC Aegis Fate was present during the Covenant's invasion of Reach in the summer of 2552. It was assigned to bring fire support for a group of Marines fighting on the ground and offered as a support element for Dragon X-ray, though the operator refused, fearing that its firepower could cause collateral damage.

In the ensuing Battle of Installation 00, the Aegis Fate was last seen in a stationary position in the atmosphere of the Ark over a Jiralhanae encampment in the desert regions (the multiplayer map Sandtrap). It's very probable that it returned safely to Earth with the UNSC survivors and Elite fleet whilst Johnson used Forward Unto Dawn to rescue the Chief - the other frigate that went through the portal.

It was assigned to the UNSC Home Fleet during the First and Second Battle of Earth when the confrontation concluded with the Covenant Loyalist withdrawal through the Forerunner Portal. The UNSC Aegis Fate (FFG-307) is a Charon-class light frigate in the UNSC Navy.[1]

Service history[edit]

Fall of Reach[edit]

Main article: Fall of Reach

The UNSC Aegis Fate was present during the Covenant's invasion of Reach in the summer of 2552. It was assigned to bring fire support for a group of Marines fighting on the ground and offered as a support element for Dragon X-ray, though the operator refused, fearing that its firepower could cause collateral damage.[2]

Post-Reach[edit]

Main article: Sandtrap

After escaping Reach, the Aegis Fate was deployed to an abandoned Jiralhanae excavation site on Installation 00.[3][Note 2] It deployed at least one Albatross to the surface, though it crashed for reasons unknown.[1]

Production notes[edit]

Prior to Halo 3's release, the Aegis Fate was thought to be a UNSC battlecruiser, as descriptions found in the Halo 3 Beta described it as such.[4]

In the Halo: Reach Multiplayer Beta, the radio conversation mentioning Aegis Fate was on Overlook[5] before being moved to Courtyard in the retail release.

In the now-cancelled game Halo Online, the Aegis Fate was seen hovering high above the multiplayer map Reactor.

Trivia[edit]

 • The Aegis Fate is prominently featured in the northeastern[6] patch of unclouded sky on the Halo 3 multiplayer map Sandtrap.
 • Aegis was name of the goddess Athena's armor in Greek mythology. It was originally Zeus', which he made from the hide of a goat who raised him.

List of appearances[edit]

Notes[edit]

 1. ^ The Aegis Fate is part of the Seventh Fleet due to the "7" star emblem adorning its ventral prow. This was established with the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn entry in the Halo: The Essential Visual Guide.
 2. ^ In Bungie's Sandtrap postmortem, a section of Sandtrap's design document reads "Deep within the boundless dune-fields of Waypoint, the high tech Forerunner structure encases the remnants of even older Forerunner stonework.". During development of Halo 3, "Waypoint" was the name given for the structure that would come to be known as The Ark.
