The UNSC type 20 3x scope Binoculars are used in combat to observe and retrieve data against the covenant and other enemies. Spartans have a slightly more powerful pair built into their visor to allow maximum balance in combat. The Master Chief's Binoculars are a 3-4x scope set. Able to locate enemies from over a mile away. The Binoculars range is like that of a Sniper Rifle, only it does not reach 8x zoom.

The Binoculars range is most efficient when used in combat. Able to tell UNSC troops where enemies are located or hiding. In Halo: Cambat Evolved, Master Chief's mark V armor did not have built in Binoculars to tell him were the enemies were. The only way he could see waswith any weapon that zoomed in. In Halo 2, the UNSC gave Master Chief new armor and built in a pair of Binoculars for the Chief. This proved to be VERY useful, as he needed to defend Earth from a lot of enemies. It is, without a doubt, to be a feature in Halo 3.

The UNSC troops, without the advanced armor of the Spartans, were only able to cary the type 10 3x scope Binoculars. Carried by troops scanning the environment for any Covenant and Covenant vehicles, they stayed put, to keep them out of sight. Built with a stand to keep the Binoculars steady, they were able to detect Covenant and possibly a Scarab, in the level Outskirts. They carry this important piece of equipment in a pouch on the side.

On the level Outskirts, when you kill the first Grunt, hop up on the ledge like you would to get the skull on any difficulty. With the skull are four grenades and a pair of type 10 3x scope Binoculars.

They are also located on the level Metropolis, when the Scarab destroys the Tank. They are on the ledge with the Machine Gun.

Binoculars are a device which allows the user to view distant objects by magnifying them.[1] A spotting scope is a specific variation of the device commonly employed by the UNSC.[2]

Types[edit]

Human[edit]

Binoculars are generally used by United Nations Space Command military forces to observe the battlefield, gather information and locate enemies. Marine sniper-spotter teams have spotters with spotting scopes to observe and locate targets for the sniper.[1] Certain sets of UNSC binoculars have a digital display, which shows the temperature, as well as the distance to the target.[3] The UNSC spotting scope is equipped with a stand to keep the device steady.[1]

Covenant[edit]

The Covenant ground forces use magnifying monoculars to observe the battlefield, filling a similar role as the binoculars.[4]

Gameplay[edit]

MJOLNIR Mk VI featured in Halo 2 was the first armor to have magnification system in-game. The MJOLNIR armor's binocular system featured in Halo 3 has the same radius as the one in Halo 2. The only difference is that it is more detailed and that it shows distance to the target. The Sangheili combat harness also has a built-in magnification system. Otherwise similar to the MJOLNIR's binoculars, it has a slightly different visor shape. Subsequently, the ODST armor from Halo 3: ODST, MJOLNIR Mark V from Halo: Reach and MJOLNIR GEN2 from Halo 4 all feature a built-in magnification system.
