Maybe Next Time Buddy
Maybe Next Time Buddy is a Halo 3 multiplayer achievement. It was awarded for boarding the same vehicle within 10 seconds of having been thrown off of it in any free for all playlist. The achievement is worth 5 Gamerscore.
This achievement is represented by a red octagon with a hand making a "Stop" sign. This achievement's icon is identical to the emblem entitled "Halt."
The vehicle must still have had the hijacker in it; if the driver was killed and then the player boarded the vehicle, the achievement would not unlock.
Following the shutdown of Xbox 360 Halo online services on January 13, 2022, this achievement is no longer attainable.[1][2]
Tips[edit]
- An easy way to unlock this achievement was to get the Ghost on Snowbound and drive it into the underground section where the Shotgun spawn is. Simply waiting for someone to get up to the Ghost and hijack it, and since there was not much room for the hijacker to move, the player could very easily hijack the Ghost back without the enemy getting away. However, it was advisable that players stay very near the shield doors. Otherwise, the hijacker could use the twin plasma cannons on the Ghost to finish them off.
- This achievement could be difficult for some, since many players didn't like to use vehicles in free for all as it drew a lot of attention. This led people to gather at the start of a match and exchange vehicles, before resuming the fight again. Additionally, players hijacked out of the vehicles are momentarily stunned and have their movement limited, making it hard to re-board the vehicle. One solution was to immediately deploy a Bubble Shield to increase chances of surviving.
- On Snowbound, being hijacked very close to the Overshield spawn point, allowing players to use pickup the Overshield which would make the player invincible for a few seconds until the shield fully charges, and thus, the Ghost hijacker could not kill them by splattering them or killing them with the Plasma Cannons. Another useful power-up was the power drain, which would prevent the other player from splattering or shoot them until they could re-hijack it.
- This multiplayer achievement was unique because it was one of the few original achievements that did not require a ranked playlist. This meant that, with a guest, players could arrange the completion of this achievement on Rumble Pit. Sometimes players would help each other get this achievement in Lone Wolves by simply letting a player hi-jack them, then the other player letting them re-hi-jack them. If a player didn't want to "cheat" to get the achievement, it could be pretty tricky.
