Mombasa
One of the most famed and veteran units of the UNSC Marine Corps, the 7th Shock Battalion served in some of the most climatic and legendary battles during the latter part of the Human-Covenant War. The 7th Battalion fought alongside Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 during most of 2552, and into the end of the war in the Spring of 2553. Men and women from this battalion were also some of the first Humans to travel outside of the Milky Way Galaxy, during the Battle of Installation 00 .

Some of the most ferocious fighting done by the 7th battalion was done during the First and Second Battle of Earth. Overall, the defense of Earth was one of the largest campaigns the ODST's fought in during the 30+ years of the war.
Installation 05
Battle of Installation 05
On November 2, after In Amber Clad arrived at Halo Installation 05 in pursuit of the Prophet of Regret's flagship, members of First Platoon of an unidentified company were deployed to the surface of the installation to capture the Prophet. The majority of First Platoon died upon or shortly after making Landfall, however GySgt Marcus Stacker, SSGT Banks and PFC Chips Dubbo were able to assist John-117 as the Spartan moved toward the Prophet's location. The ODSTs were evacuated by Sergeant Major Avery Johnson via Pelican and diverted to Delta Halo's Library for another mission.

Battle of Installation 00
Marines of the Seventh would conduct air assault operations during the opening phases of the ground war at Mombasa, where the troopers battled in the streets before reinforcements from the In Amber Clad could arrive . Later, additional forces from the Say My Name would arrive in HEV's to reinforce UNSC positions against the Prophet of Regret's expeditionary force . Most, if not all of the bulk of the reinforcements were killed when the Assault Carrier above New Mombasa, Kenya entered slipspace . Though some Marine Shock Troops were able to survive the slipspace rift, and engage hostile Covenant forces.
On December 11, 2552, troopers of the 7th Battalion were deployed to the surface of the Ark to destroy an array of Covenant anti-aircraft artillery platforms that were overlooking a desert sea. The destruction of these emplacements allowed the frigate Forward Unto Dawn to land near the Cartographer building.

Members, from an unknown company, of First Platoon would later drop from the In Amber Clad onto Installation 05 during the operation to capture the Prophet of Regret. They then cleared a landing zone so that a Warthog could be deployed for John-117. Most of these troopers would perish during the initial campaign against the Covenant, and only a few would escape back to Earth with Commander Keyes .
During the Battle of the Citadel (the final battle of the war) the 7th Battalion breached the Covenant's armor and artillery defenses. They assisted SPARTAN-117 and Sergeant Major Johnson in shutting down the shield generator stations protecting the Citadel; meanwhile, the Sangheili assault carrier Shadow of Intent provided air cover and distracted enemy forces from the joint human-Sangheili offensive by firing on the shield with her plasma torpedoes. After their primary objective was complete the allied forces entered the citadel canyon, defeating the remaining hostiles (including a pair of Deutoross). This allowed the Spartan and Arbiter Thel 'Vadam to push inside and kill the Prophet of Truth, dissolving the Covenant.

Trivia
During the Battle of Cleveland in Winter 2552, a squadron of AV-14 Hornets provided a platform for Shock Troops to rescue civilians held inside of a stadium. They fastropped from the Hornets, and dispatched the enemy forces within the stadium in seconds. Minutes later, infantry forces helped the Shock troops eliminate ground forces occupying land in the older part of town.

The 7th Battalion fought during the last battle of the Human-Covenant War, and arguably, one of the largest. Unlike their previous excursions unto the Halo rings, the men and women of the 7th battalion would be exclusively used for air assaults. One such assault happened during a mission to destroy numerous Anti-Aircraft Artillery platforms overlooking a desert sea. These AAA guns were later destroyed by the shock troops, and allowed the Forward Unto Dawn to successfully land near the cartographer building . During the last battle of the Ark Campaign, and the last of the war, Shock troops were again airlifted into combat. This time, they punched holes in Covenant armored and artillery positions . They assisted MCPO John-117 and SgtMaj Johnson in shutting down the shield generator stations, protecting the Citadel; during which, the Sangheili carrier Shadow of Intent provided air cover, and distracted enemy forces from the joint Human-Sangheili offensive, by firing on the shield with their plasma torpedoes. After their primary objective was complete, allied forces then proceeded to enter the citadel canyon with an armored push on the ground, consisting of Human and Sangheili infantry forces and M808B Scorpion's, and covered by AV-14 Hornets in the air.

The 7th Shock Troops Battalion is a formation of the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers that served during the closing stages of the Human-Covenant War.[1] It is subordinate to the 105th Shock Troops Division.[2]

History[edit]

Reach[edit]

Main article: Battle at Szurdok Ridge

The 7th Battalion served during the Fall of Reach in summer 2552. On August 12 the battalion operated as part of a large joint task force that countered Covenant deployments in the Viery Territory, where it served in the northern region.[2]

Mombasa[edit]

Main article: Battle of Mombasa

On October 20, 2552, members of the 7th Battalion assigned to the frigate UNSC In Amber Clad were deployed to the Kenyan city of Mombasa in an attempt to board Solemn Penance, the flagship of the invading forces; their mission was to capture the Prophet of Regret, a member of the Covenant's triumvirate of Hierarchs. A D77-TC Pelican carrying part of this strike team was shot down by a Scarab assault platform in the city's older district, forcing the surviving occupants to take cover in the nearby Hotel Zanzibar. They were soon rescued by Spartan John-117 and aided the Spartan in destroying the Scarab.[3][4][5]

Installation 05[edit]

Main article: Battle of Installation 05

Installation 00[edit]

Main article: Battle of Installation 00

On December 11, 2552, troopers of the 7th Battalion were deployed to the surface of the Ark to destroy an array of Covenant anti-aircraft artillery platforms that were overlooking a desert sea. The destruction of these emplacements allowed the frigate UNSC Forward Unto Dawn to land near the Cartographer building.[6]

After their primary objective was complete the allied forces entered the citadel canyon, defeating the remaining hostiles (including a pair of Deutoros-pattern Scarabs). This allowed the Spartan and Arbiter Thel 'Vadam to push inside and kill the Prophet of Truth, dissolving the Covenant.[7]

Trivia[edit]

 • The name of the battalion is an obvious reference to the number seven.
 • The 7th Battalion's unit patch was intended to be displayed on the ODSTs' battle dress in Halo 2, though this was not implemented in-game.[1] A heavily weathered version appears on the ODST NPC model in Halo 3.
