Some believe that this is the gun under the Pelicans nose in Halo 2. they look nothing alike! they perform simalerly but all that means is they're both medium machine guns with a relatively low rate of fire.Maiar 07:18, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Is it known how many people (meaning average marines, not Spartans) it takes to carry, deploy, and use the portable version in combat? Would one marine be able to handle it, or would he need another to help him? Iceman117 02:45, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

Well, on Cairo Station you see Sergeant Johnson deploy a portable turret without any aid. He just sling it off of his shoulder, mounts it, and then proceeds to operate it.

Many machine guns are classified based on what kind of mountings that they are on. for example. the modern M240 would be classed as an Light Machine Gun if it were mounted on a bipod, and as a GP/Medium Machine gun if on a Tripod. Also, many modern HMGs were classified as such by their bulkiness and weight, even though they'd be using the 7.62mm NATO round. --WhellerNG 01:40, September 1, 2010 (UTC)
:I was gonna say- the article says it's used as a SAW, but I'm not sure that's true. It's always seen on a pintle/turret or with a tripod, which are characteristics you would associated with a GPMG, and only present in a relatively small number of cases. I suppose any weapon in a squad automatic weapon if it's organic to a rifle squad, but I don't think these are. Halo never attempts to show organization in-game, and I actually think that's okay since the units often feel like ad-hoc creations made during the chaos of massive battles. But I just don't see much evidence that it's a SAW, at least in any official capacity. It just seems more akin to a 240 than a 249, and 240 variants are rarely used as SAWs (although, I will say that 247 uses the same ammo as the standard service rifle, which the 240 doesn't, at least not for US troops). I mean look at that giant ass tripod, which you would want an assistant gunner to carry over any long range; this weapon cannot be really be fired from the shoulder or even hip with that thing on, and I've never heard of a SAW that can't be fired from the shoulder or hip in a pinch. --Pvt sleepy (talk) 05:38, 26 May 2016 (EDT)

Wait a tick[edit]

Wasn't this weapon used on the Scorpion Tank variant seen in Halo 3? It was pintle-mounted, in a place where the tank commander would usually sit/stand. 24.165.43.22 00:03, April 30, 2010 (UTC)

Clarification[edit]

I just did a major re-write and update. Hopefully this will clarify the article. CDurham 17:44, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't suppose anyone has a better picture of the portable version of the turret? The current is really hard to make out. --MagickaMaster 06:53, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

General Purpose Machine gun[edit]

Also, many modern HMGs were classified as such by their bulkiness and weight, even though they'd be using the 7.62mm NATO round. --WhellerNG 01:40, September 1, 2010 (UTC)
