The file was a fragment that Kalmiya managed to piece together. The file contained a star chart. It was not just a random string. It can be found on page 130 of Halo: First Strike. Halsey later (in Halo: Ghosts of Onyx) uses this star chart to find Onyx, where Ackerson is running his Spartan-III project. --Rotaretilbo
