The X-24 FAV was not named in the initial Halo: Collateral Damage release, but was first identified in the comic's hardcover release. The APC is only identified as the "X-24 FAV", leaving the acronym FAV unknown. Given the existence of the M12 Force Application Vehicle, it is likely the X-24 FAV stands for Force Application Vehicle.
The X-24 FAV's inclusion in Halo: Collateral Damage was the result of a desire by 343 Industries' desire to lean into the colourful, youthful flair of the comic - evoking a similar feel to action-packed Saturday morning cartoons. 343 Industries also noted that the vehicle is akin to the REAP-X vehicles produced by MEGA Brands, such as the quad walker, Kestrel and siege bike.

343 and artist Dave Crosland went through many concept iterations to design the vehicle with the premise of the vehicle being a prototype at the time the story was set; as such one of his early pitches revolved around the idea that the vehicle may be the result of the UNSC reverse-engineering Covenant technology. Some early iterations explored the use of anti-gravity technology similar to other Covenant vehicles. This avenue was ultimately decided against, and later concepting focused on the vehicle's design as one for the ground. The X-24 Force Application Vehicle (FAV)[3][Note 1] is an armored vehicle utilized by the United Nations Space Command during the early days of the Human-Covenant War.[1][2]

Overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

The X-24 FAV is equipped with two machine guns for defense,[1] and armor plating capable of largely negating weapons fire from both bullets and plasma.[2]

Operational history[edit]

One of these APCs was utilized by SPARTAN-II Blue Team during the Battle of Alpha Corvi II.[2]

Production notes[edit]

The X-24 FAV's inclusion in Halo: Collateral Damage was the result of a desire by 343 Industries' desire to lean into the colourful, youthful flair of the comic - evoking a similar feel to action-packed Saturday morning cartoons. 343 Industries also noted that the vehicle is akin to the REAP-X vehicles produced by MEGA Brands, such as the quad walker, Kestrel and siege bike.[3]

Some of the later refinements explored the vehicle moving via tank treads, or as a motorcycle (notably similar to the "Grackle" from the cancelled Halo MMO), or even a flying vehicle similar to the AV-series aircraft like the Hornet and Sparrowhawk, before settling on the final armoured car look.[3]

The X-24 FAV was not named in the initial Halo: Collateral Damage release, but was first identified in the comic's hardcover release.[3]
