Stephen Loftus is a scale-modeling hobbyist known for his detailed work on scale comparison on the Halo universe. His knowledge and analysis of the Halo fiction got the attention of 343 Industries and led to his collaboration with them on the production of Halo: The Essential Visual Guide, Halo 4: The Essential Visual Guide, Halo Mythos,[1] and Halo: Warfleet – An Illustrated Guide to the Spacecraft of Halo. He goes by the username "SoundEffect" on halo.bungie.org and ScaleMaster117 on this very website and Xbox Live.
Background[edit]
Loftus has been into scale modeling since 1985, focusing on ships and objects from sci-fi medium such as Star Trek, Star Wars and Gundam.[2] He co-founded and maintains the Maritime Science Fiction Modelers, a website formed in 1993 that is dedicated to showcase the work of the sci-fi scale-modeling group.
Since the release of Halo: Combat Evolved, Loftus has been producing detailed analyses on the Halo universe, focusing on the technical specifications of the technology, ships and weapons. The most well-received article to date has been his silhouette scale charts showing most Halo game objects in scale with one another in a series of cascading images from the very large to the very small.
